How to Keep Yourself Motivated to Maintain Healthy Lifestyle
When you're motivated to get fit and healthy, it's natural to want to hit the gym and overhaul your diet. You're all in, you're ready for it, and you're loving every minute of it. When your motivation wanes, it's easy to revert to old habits like skipping a workout or eating poorly. While taking a day off or indulging in those amazing donuts you love in moderation is fine, you can't let your lack of motivation affect how you feel about your health. If you're feeling unmotivated to maintain your good health, try these suggestions.
Examine Photos of Your Ideal Body
Do you want to work on a Kardashian bottom or a flat stomach with visible abs? Do you want curves in your arms or just gorgeous muscle tone? Take a look at a photo of the body parts you want to achieve. When you're feeling unmotivated, these photos will help you find a way to re-energize yourself.
Make Small Goals
You have a big goal, but you need to break it down into smaller goals that you can accomplish over time. You feel motivated when you have more than one goal to cross off your list. Here's an example. You want to get fit and healthy in six months, lose weight, and look amazing on a tropical beach vacation. That is your primary goal. You divide that goal into smaller goals. Maybe you want to go to the gym four days a week for at least a half hour, and maybe you want to eat 80 percent healthy food and 20 percent junk food.
Write them down and cross off the smaller goals every day. Check it off your list if you manage to work out for 30 minutes that day. Check it off your list if you eat only healthy foods that day in order to save your indulgence for a movie date this weekend. Every time you accomplish even the smallest goal, you feel more motivated and optimistic about your life.
Look for Accountability
Find someone who will hold you accountable. This is someone you should check in with every day. It's humiliating to admit to someone that you failed simply because you were tired or didn't want to. You'd rather tell that person that you did meet your daily goals, which keeps you motivated. Allow their disappointment to motivate you to stay on track.
Your body will change if you can change your mind, which is why motivation is so important. What works for you may not work for someone else, and vice versa. This is why you should try a few of these to see if they work for you and eliminate what doesn't.
